Not another pricing question!? (Sorry)

I shot a ball on Saturday, the hostess paid me as agreed and what I do is provide a link to the digital images for her to download and use. My rates are $50 per hour. (I'm still a newbie, so I keep my prices lower than the most of the local talent)
I received emails from attendees who attended and want to also receive the link to the photos so that they can purchase individuals. I'm a little unsure on how to proceed fairly. I mean, on one hand, I already received payment for the shoot. No matter what, I have to go through over 500 photos and get them out. Do I just give these people the same link as the hostess and let them download for free? Or do I send them a separate link to watermarked photos and charge them a la cart?

Thanks for your input!

Well, I have attended weddings where the bride paid for the photo shoot of the wedding, but individuals could purchase their own prints.

I think you should have the watermarked images available for purchase since you own the images. Did the hostess plan on giving the images out to the guests? Of course, there is nothing to stop the hostess from giving out the link.

Used to be the photographer had the negatives, so there was no choice but to purchase the prints you were going to give out. I think that if you are doing extra work to provide images to the attendees, then they should be charged appropriately. Seems like they are willing to purchase the images.

I am no pro, but it just seems fair to sell images to individuals since there is extra work involved.
I guess it just depends on what you discussed with the hostess, and what she intended to do with the images.

What was in your contract with the event organizer?

For the charity events I shoot, the event organizers are paying me for the time there shooting. Guests interested in a print can purchase directly from me, and I'll usually have a pre-set amount from the print sale that goes back to the charity that the event benefited. In that way, there's a clear demarcation point between what the organizers paid for, and what the guests are paying for. In both cases, I publish a proofing gallery on my website, where guests can view and purchase prints and the organizer can review the proofs for any images they might want to use for marketing the next year's event.

I'll do my general global edits for the proofs that go online, and then will spend a little extra time on images that get selected for prints. That way I'm not spending hours getting every feather or spot of dust off my backdrop for the 300 proofs, but I will spend that time for a print.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback. The organizer and I agreed on my hourly rate and she will receive a link to all of the photos. She also said that if guests wanted to purchase individual photos, that would be something separate between them and myself. This is my first time shooting this type of event where guests would actually want their own copies of the images. A couple have already reached out to me, so I am going to create two separate links, one for the coordinated and one for the guests. I will watermark them and have a couple of a la cart options available to them. I just didn't want to seem greedy. But, to make me feel better, I will throw in some extra editing for the a la cart options. :)
