Do i need a model release for an old photo restoration ?

Hello,

A friend of mine ask me a favor to photograph a newspaper photo where her deceased father and herself as a child (11 years old) are in the picture. I did that, did some lightroom and photoshop to bring back the photo alive. She liked the proof for a 5x7 print out.

Question: Do i need a model release form signed by my friend if i want to market the before and after of the photo ?

I doubt you even own any copyright when making a photo of a photo.

But realistically; would anyone (the original photographer) care enough to take steps? The copyright is a more important issue than the models approval.
