Cavalier attitude of Nikon

Unlike most on this site, I do not have a Nikon camera! I ordered one from one supplier about six weeks or so ago who told me that they did not have the one I wanted (a red D3300 camera and multiple lens pack) and did not know how long it would take to get it. They offered me my money back. So I went to another supplier who said it could be up to three weeks. I placed the order and waited. Around three weeks I contacted them, they contacted Nikon Australia, and no, it was not in the inventory of the next boat to arrive. Some time later when I contacted them it had reached Nikon Australia and therefore should be with me (via the shop) in less than a week. Today, just over a week later I contacted the shop who contacted Nikon Australia who said that they had sent the camera to another purchaser who had been waiting longer. Mine would have to be ordered again and would take at least another three weeks! Three questions: 1) could Nikon Australia not have let the shop I ordered it from know that the camera they were expecting was not coming?; 2) why could they not have put several ordered cameras on the same boat?; 3) why isn't my camera order at least already in the system - why does it have to be ordered again from scratch?

I believe Nikon sales are cavalier in their attitude to their customers and are not likely to last much longer as a manufacturer with that sales attitude. You may all soon have historic collectables!!! Angry? You bet!!!!

Welcome!

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Did you try ordering directly from Nikon's website?

Welcome to the forum, its not just a Nikon thing, its a shame to say it but we notice goods service more than bad as we are more conditioned to bad service,it will be worth the wait.

It's more likely that your local shop is giving you the run around on things.... They only send one D3300 to Australia once every three weeks? Yeah, ok.... I believe that, BAHAHAHAA.

Nikons supply to the UK is crap at the moment, one of the main dealers has nearly every bridge camera awaiting stock,my dealer placed a stock order two weeks ago and most of the stuff went on back order, how long has the P900 been out of stock, the gray importers are selling the 300mm pf but dealers cant get it.

It's country vs country. Here the 300mm is in stock and in the Netherlands too. There's only a limited supply for Europe and certain countries, like Germany, absorb a huge amount of that supply. For some products the main problem is manufacturing. If there's more demand than stock and they manufacture them at a low rate, you're basically screwed when other stores or countries absorb the bulk.

They always try to satisfy the big boys first.

Well he's claiming that Nikon is only shipping one Red D3300 to Aus every three weeks, so I'd assume that would put it in high demand in any kind of retail format, online or brick and mortar.

All of the above say they have units in stock and say in description that they ship to Australia.

Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens (Red) B&H Photo

B&H has always been good to me. They have the red D3300 in stock, both with kit lens and as part of a larger kit. They ship to Australia.

Though Nikon certainly doesn't have an unblemished customer service record, in this case, I'd be more inclined to blame the retailer than Nikon. If the retailer made a mistake in ordering, or forgot to order yours, it's too easy to place the blame on Nikon, especially if they're also motivated to try to sell you a unit they have in stock. The story cited about only 1 red unit being shipped to the entire country of Australia just doesn't pass the smell test...for me.

Wouldn't buying out of country make it the same as buying gray market, voiding the warranty?

Perhaps so, 10G. That is certainly a valid consideration. Not sure how the warranty terms differ from country to country.

I would guess that if you lived in Aus. and bought a Nikon from B&H, or Amazon US, and had a problem, you would send it to one of the US Nikon service centers for warranty work. Simply buying a product from a different country doesn't VIOD the warranty.

One red D3300 seems few but that they only manufacture a batch every three weeks might be possible. But it'll be more than one for each country.

I don't believe you can register your warranty with Nikon if your residence is listed in a country other than which you are trying to register for (otherwise a lot more people would buy gray market). Which basically means no warranty. Shipping to and from AUS is also extremely exorbitant.

His best bet really is just to wait for another AUS bound unit to come in.
