How much to charge for company photos updating website?

Hi everyone,

I was asked by the CEO of my company to take some photos in order to update the company website. The photos would include some images of the buildings and images of staff working with fake clients inside them. This would include anywhere between 12~20 edited photos. I've photographed 3 party events for them at a rate of $60/hr so far.

I'm not sure if the regularly hourly rate is standard here because it may take longer due to traveling to locations and light fixture set up time. I also won't be outputting hundreds of images so there would be less editing work. I know that sometimes people charge at cost of individual pictures and wanted to know the forum's thoughts.

The company has been very supportive of me and my recovery when I fell on the job and had a concussion recently as well : )

It's not just the editing and number of shots that goes into the cost. Travel time, set-up, knowledge, equipment... Why not $60/hour while you're onsite, plus a mileage fee for the travel side of things? The IRS currently allows for .56/mile as a Standard Mileage Rate.

Thanks for the update about the mileage rate, it's a non-profit organization and their rate is .48/mi which isn't far off. I can include the mileage in the contract. I've mostly done events and parties so this feels relatively new to me.

Mileage rate is to recover vehicle expenses and sometimes does not do that well. Would not be anything wrong with adding some additional for travel time. I would take a cue from how the company does travel time while on the clock. In other words, if they pay employees an hourly or daily rate while traveling, they should expect something similar or even a bit more for an independent while traveling.

My quarters worth.

Exactly what I was typing up. I know my wife travels a bit in her business, and she gets normal salary PLUS mileage when she's driving, so... GOOD THOUGHT @Eyelight!
