Most importantly, if you ever have to send your camera to Nikon for repair they will immediately send you out a loaner camera to use while yours is being serviced. Secondly, the membership is free. The only downside is you have to be "nominated" for membership by a current member of NPS. In addition, you must also own at least 2 "pro" level bodies (whatever that means) and 2 or 3 (can't remember now) "pro" level lenses.

Nikon Professional User Scheme is based on having a certain number of items of 'Pro' equipment.

    Here's what you'll receive as a member:

Nikon Professional Users Membership Card - Use your card to gain access to exclusive range of services.
Freefone Technical Support - Talk directly to Nikon Customer Support specialists with a dedicated telephone line.
Notice of New Products and Technology - Be amongst the first to hear about the latest Nikon product innovations.
Invitation to Free Seminars and Other Professional Events - Attend exclusive seminars and other professional events.
Discounted Nikon Training Courses - Learn more at our practical Digital Imaging Training Workshops. As a Nikon Professional User you can receive a 10% discount.
    Not to be confused with...

Nikon Professional Services Scheme (which does the loan/quick turn-around service).

Application for the Nikon Professional Services scheme is open to anyone engaged as a full-time professional photographer (deriving their main source of income from photography) using Nikon equipment. You must live and be based professionally in the United Kingdom or ROI , and should own at least six pieces of professional Nikon equipment, two of which needs to be camera bodies.

Oh, I didn't notice the "user" portion. I was speaking only about NPS, until today I had never heard of a "users" version of NPS.

I believe this is a European implementation of the Nikon Professional Services package available in the states. My understanding is that it's far less restrictive (i.e. one "pro body" last I checked).

    Thank you

The NPU scheme sounds easy to get into but with few benefits apart from possibly the tech support helpline. The NPS sounds very useful, but is restricted to full-time pros only.

I was very interested in NPS here in the US, but having to be fully pro excludes me even if I had the required gear. I have two D300 pro Nikon's and I believe the Nikkor AF 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 ed lens would qualify as one pro lens. I guess it doesn't matter.
