Photos for Hotels and Restaurants

Hi everyone,
I am starting to get curious about where Hotels and Restaurants get their wall photos. I recently stayed in a hotel and they had big (36"x?) pictures of basic stuff like train tracks, buildings, etc. I was with a few other guests and met them in their rooms and the same pictures were in every room. I then was at my local T.G.I. Friday's today for lunch and they had numerous photos on their wall of buildings and other basic stuff. I was wondering, do these pictures come from corporate or do they bid on these photos from local photograghers. I have many of the same types of shots on my computer and was wondering if this could turn into some $$$. How does one sell their photos to a Comfort Inn, Hilton, Friday's etc.? Thanks.

A lot of those pictures you see hanging on the walls of hotels and restaurants, etc. are from stock photo outlets that are posterized just for that purpose. Of course, some are from local photographers that deal in that sort of thing.

Why don't you put a few on an ipad or tablet and ask the owner or manager if they might be interested and if yes give them a quote !

Some Photographers/Artists frame there work for display in stores/restaurants and give them a percentage to sell them...

You'll have much more luck selling your photos to the local guy versus a large corporate entity. This goes for hotels, restaurants, cafes, pubs, just about everything.

Selling to a stock photo agency is pretty much impossible anymore. They have so many photos and so many established providers that they pretty much ignore anyone else. You have to be something extraordinarily special to get noticed by them. If you were that special though, you wouldn't want to be selling to a rip off place like a stock photo agency though.
