D7000 - ISO 6400 630mm(300f4 &1.4 TC) wide open at f5.6-the D7000 is awesome let me know what you think. It was virtually dark.

Really people? Wow? Fantastic? Very Nice? Beautiful? Do I not see these same things? "Wide open" and f5.6 shouldn't be used in the same sentence, but I get ya. Understanding the conditions and equipment used, its more like a "OK" image in my opinion. Its a nice capture (position of wings) that suffers due to the quality. It doesn't look that grainy, so the high ISO of the 7000 seems pretty decent. It was cropped square which does not help the composition, and the bird if out of focus/has some motion blur. The whole image is dark and lacks oomph. a little post processing could have gone a long way with this one. I am guessing this was taken further out and you cropped it to be closer, and that is where the image quality went.

Thank you Joe :) I had but a split second to shoot, I wanted it dark so I left it dark - it's shot as seen. I don't understand your comment about "wide open @5.6" it was wide open at 5.6 with the 1.4TC it makes my 300f4 a 5.6. I am glad you think it's Okay that's great. :)

And just for fun: a photo that "captures the imagination" or can tell a story all by it's self is a great photo. Regardless of composition, sharpness etc.

Sorry Sam, I may have come off a bit harsh. Just hate when people say things like fantastic, beautiful etc etc and don't back up their claim, or tell you WHY they think that way. Especially in the CRITIQUE section. My opinion was the opposite of theirs, and I told you why I thought that way. The wide open thing was a joke. Just meant that when I think of "wide open" I think 2.8....yes, i fully understand it was wide open, for THAT lens in particular with the TC.

as for the "just for fun" part of your comment, I agree to a point...but in all honestly, when you post a photo in the critique section, you are asking that ALL portions of the photo be critiqued. From the "captures the imagination" part to quality and sharpness. and FOR ME...when the crop, composition and sharpness lack, I see nothing else, other than a snap shot. There needs to be SOME sort of quality to the image, to help portray the "Feelings" of the moment. When people hear what they don't want to hear (Like my comments), they immediately go on the defense and say things like "well its not about the quality, or i wasnt trying, or the light was bad" or some other crap excuse. If thats the case, post the pic in a NON-critique section so you can receive your "atta boys" and pats on the back from people who are affraid to tell it like it is.

No worries Joe I appreciate your comments, I know it's just a snap shot LOL that's all the time i had. I appciate your honesty I am not offended by any means - that's why I posted in this section. I am more amazed at how well the D7000 performed, given more time and a tripod it would of been - a fantastic shot. However I am glad that folks like it.

but if its a "snap shot" that you took quick and didn't have time for this, and didn't have time for that, and i know its not great, and yada yada...then what's the point?? You are only going to defend every negative comment with a "i know, i wasn't trying" kind of comment.

whatever. This site has become a joke. Nothing but dillusional people who feed others lines of crap praising mediocre images, meanwhile the person taking those pictures never grows and continues to post mediocre images because people here tell them "it's ok, its all about what looks good to YOU". I'm done.

It's too bad you feel that way about this site. There are a lot good people and good photographers here. No not every photo posted is perfect, so what? I don't think everyone here want's perfection to the point where photography is not fun anymore. I am an amateur I want to learn and have fun it's that simple. Yes I have seen photos and not just here but on other sites that don't appeal to me but appealed to many more folks. If it offends you that somebody likes a photo that you don't like... well you have to sort that out for yourself.

Joe- not everyone here needs to be as critical as you. It appears that the type of forum that suits your style will be Dpreview. No one here is forcing you to join or leave. People here are just glad to share their work. They might not be the best image that you can put on a frame and display it in your living room but it is a start for others. It's all about sharing our passion. Unfortunately, not everyone is as advance or skilled as you. Happy Holidays! Peace.
