One More New D500 shot to post

OK, so this weekend it is not a rental D500; I have my own now. I'm getting out and playing with it. Yes, it will be a while until a long, fast lens (such as the well recommended 70-200mm f/2.8) makes its way to me, so I am shooting with what is currently available. Absolute sharpness can likely still be improved upon, but I was pleased to capture this while in the Elkhorn Slough Reserve just north of Monterey CA. The D500 performed very well at following a moving subject.

Thank you all again for your feedback.

The head and eye of the butterfly appear out of focus. Probably motion blur as other elements appear in focus. You probably needed a little more shutter speed.

The crop is uncomfortable for me, the subjects are too high. The butterfly needs more room at the top.

Keep at it and congrats on the D500, it's awesome!

Yes, I did notice I was not where I wanted to be on the eye. I will check the focus point on the SD card image itself in the camera; I likely was off the mark. I'm reading Steve Perry's Nikon Autofocus guide, and finding it quite informative.

I can likely crop the image differently, I just liked it like that. They are hard to catch, that butterfly was moving around a lot! It was probably an S autofocus; a GRP or D25 would be good to try, too.

Anyway...thanks. Awesome camera; it's all practice as I gear up for a weekend of motorcycles in 3 weeks.

Two things that would have helped this shot.

1. Bumping up your ISO to get more shutter speed
2. Taking the TC off.
