Wheel down a tunnel

Somewhat outside my usual field of photography, would love to know what you think.

Taken with Nikon D600 and 24-85mm lens @48mm, 1/50th sec f6.3 ISO500 with off camera flash.

Awesome! For me, i would have liked to have seen the reflection of the wheel/tyre slightly more prominent and the tunnel reflection slightly duller - none the less, its an excellent shot

Well... it looks nice...but, I have to tell you... If you hadn't given the image a title, I'd have stared at it for a long time wondering what exactly I was looking at...

Cool location! The thing I like the least is....the tire and wheel. I don't understand the relationship or the "story". I think that the location could be shot without it or with a subject that made more sense. I would shoot from a tripod at maybe F11 or F16 or maybe even try focus stacking to bring the entire tunnel into focus. I might also try putting the vanishing point 1/3 from the top or bottom. A rat, shopping cart, poorly dressed person or even an old tire lying in the water might tell a more compelling story.

I like the shot. I think it's well composed and technically very well executed. One thing that jumps out at me, however, is how there's a warm ambient light in the tunnel, while the lighting on the tire is much cooler and much whiter, almost sterile. This creates a sort of "visual dichotomy" for me.

Thanks for the feedback I everyone, I appreciate it all.

Mork, there is a reflection so be it a dark one. Perhaps it’s not showing on your screen so well?

Chris, useful comments. I would have stopped it down a bit more if I’d remembered a tripod! Light was limited as you can imagine and so had to compromise. Unfortunately due to limited access to the location the extra props just wouldn’t be possible but I get what you mean.

Paul, thanks! I actually desaturated the tunnel lights quite a lot to bring them closer to the tyre lighting, any further and it became too monochromatic for my liking but I appreciate the comment.

This is the greatest thing with forums, everyone sees things differently, it’s such a good way to get opinions shared

I agree with Paul on the colour :) Something like a gel or a light that can change colour so you could have matched the temperature would have really helped, I think its a great location, I would love to see it with a model and not the tyre :)
