Welcome. To me, the photo is confusing. The background is washed out. The subject is maybe the horses. There's a blurry guy in the background and some jockeys and I can't see any of their eyes. I'd at least like to see the jockey's faces. If you haven't shot action before, try using continuous shooting mode and shoot in bursts. That way, you can choose from 5 or 6 pics to find the best capture.

the background was clear blue sky.. the focus is the horses, hence hiding the jockeys and showing the concentration in the horses eyes. The blurry guy is the starter to give context of where the horses are.. ie the start. i took the photo in bursts laying down next to the starting gates..

The starter guy is throwing it off, else I like it. Getting a gate of sorts would've made more sense than a guy just floating in the background,

Welcome to nikonites.com. It's good to have you here and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Look at what Singlerosa and SkvLTD are saying above and use that to envision how you could have made the photograph differently. Use their critiques to learn what to try differently at another time, and give it another go. I see promise in the image, (it appears that you do have an eye for the craft) but you could make the photo a better one, as well. Overall, you're dealing with a very difficult subject to photograph, and have done a fairly good job with it, but what I really like is the concept of the shot and your vision in trying to create it.

And, BTW, I see the need for changes in nearly every image I post here, as well. :D

First welcome, and I love the shot. Sure there are some things that probably could be better, if teh guy was not in the frame and the horses were slightly deeper in the frame, but sometimes you have to tak the best photograph with what you are given and I love that the horses are as sharp as they are, that I can see some of the Jockeys as it gives me some idea of what is going on. I like the balck and white and I rarely do black and white, but it really works here. I look forward to future posts and seeing your journey and improvement.
