I could see them in the post while I was not logged in, I don't know, I guess it's a case of Noobie-Nitis....

I deleted the images and re-attached. Hope that works! :)

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

They look pretty good at this small, low res internet size. What do they look like on say on 8x10 or 11x14 print? That would be the real acid test. Also, the backgrounds do not make them look like professional portraits. Finally the facel expression on the last print is off for a professional portrait.

Thanks Bikerbrent :)

For the backgrounds, these weren't taken with a professional backdrop, just in the kitchen. For the facial expression, yeah no smile. The 6 month old boy just wasn't laughing, what do you do in situations like that? Sometimes it's difficult to get babies to laugh/smile. Try getting 2 or3 in the same shot, all looking towards you, and with a smile, for infants it's easier to win the lottery, right? Perhaps he was tired, and needs to come back to the studio (kitchen) another day after his nap...

Any suggestions for making a professional portrait without a proper backdrop? Would love you ideas please.

Thanks again for your honest input, it's very nice that you took the time to write. Have a nice day Sir! :D

Overall, I like the three images. I do feel that the lighting is a little flat, I don't get a sense of dimension for the facial features with the current lighting.

Using lighting could also allow better control over the background, as you can kill off the ambient lighting to turn the background completely black, if need be.

Finally, howdy and welcome to Nikonites!!!

Hi RocketCowboy,

You're right on! I was thinking there wasn't much depth in the facial features... until you said it's the lighting, I didn't realize what the problem was. Thanks for pointing that out!

Excited to be here :)
