I prefer the color in this case. The bright ground and dark sky is a nice contrast. Its a nice photo. In the future, I would move that horizon line to the top or bottom third of the frame to add a bit more interest. Just my opinion.

I agree with Joe in this case. the color is nice and the B&W is not deep enough for me in this configuration. IDK if you have PS but being able to change the way the B&W effects the image is pretty cool

IDK = I don't know

I like the color version too...which says a lot, because I usually prefer black and white. I think cloning out that house in the background would add to the image as well.

Anthony thanks for that..while I've got you.... does adding a watermark give you more protection over your images?

To a certain degree, yes.

The trick with watermarks is to make them obvious enough to prevent the average image thief (someone just browsing for stuff on the internet) from just right-clicking and downloading your stuff...but non-intrusive enough so that it doesn't detract from your photo. The above average thief is just going to clone out your watermark anyway.

The real protection is in the metadata, which is embedded in the image profile itself.

Some say yes and some say it gets in the way of the image. I usually add one myself. The biggest reason I have heard not using one is because generally you crop to such an extent that you could not print a very good image off it. But my thought is that in the day of technology many people do not print at all and most just use the images for internet stuff.

Johnathan..do you have a website for your images, I've looked at your gallery on here but don't see an added watermark, I would like to see more of your images and site.

Thanks

I took my website off line at the beginning of the year. I am exploring different options and trying to find what really works.
You can see more of my work on FB just look up Northern Cal Images

I was with yahoo for quite a while and my wife actually found them charging me more than what my original agreement had said. seems some where between months 8-9 they decided they needed to charge me more with out telling me. I did get some back but not enough. I did not catch it for a long time. After that I started a new job and did not have time to re build so I put it off and spent my off time with the camera in my hands instead of on the computer. Great for adding images but I am still playing catch up. Now I am trying to figure out if a site such as 500px is the right avenue, a full customized website, or if I want to just stay with FB and a FB page.

500px is free to a degree but to really do anything to it or add your own domain you have to pay $50 a year. which still is not bad considering what i was paying through yahoo.

I tried smugmug when I first started and did not care for the interface. Idk how it is now but your "domain" used to read something like john/smugmug.com which is another thing I never cared for.

Robin:

What is your concern with watermarks and image hosting? It sounds like you are at the very least, wanting to showcase your work online or possibly even start selling some prints.
