Bee on a Cactus Flower

I've just started DSLR photography and would definitely appreciate some critique on this photo. If the exif data is not visible, it was shot with a NIKON D3100 using a AF 55-200mm telephoto lens that came with the camera. Thank you.

Bob, the exif data is there. Pass over the photo with your cursor and it shows up. Ha!

I am not one to critique, but I am sure there are others who will come along and give you some great advice.

Nice early picture,i feel the main subject needs to be larger by getting closer or cropping the image, the picture could do with a lift by adjusting shadows and highlights to brighten it up a bit,are you shooting raw,if not you may like to consider it or make sure your using the highest quality jpeg to help with cropping.

Good idea for the picture, maybe crop the picture a little so we can see the detail on the bee.

Or as Mike said, get a little closer.

Good start. Another echo of cropping in tighter on the subject. Brighten it up a bit, particularly inside the flower where the subject is.

What software are you using?

Thanks for all the replies.

Walt, thanks for pointing out the exif data. It doesn't show up in InfranView (freeware), the editing software I'm using.

Mike, Paul and Moab Man, thank you all for the cropping idea. Not sure if InfranView can handle RAW data. I'll have to look into that. My camera is set for RAW(NEF) + jpeg. Still learning about all the features and settings on the D3100. Really appreciate everyone's input.
