Just messing around to see if I can see a difference between the various re-sizings. I feel like either way, it's a better photo before being uploaded.

A lot of this depends on how you downsize your photos. Also what we see here is not full size. The forum will not accept full size and it is is over a certain size it will automatically resize it to fit the forum size.

Always better to resize yourself rather than let the forum software resize it. The best size for here is 1,000px on the long side. Anything over that is a waste and will generally degrade the photo once it is resized.

So how are you resizing your photos for upload here and what size are you sizing to?

I have tried using the 1000 on the long side method of reducing before posting using both Nikon View NX-2 and Lr6 (one or the other I mean - not both one AFTER the other). Lightroom also has the option of choosing the ppi which I left at 24 and the Output Sharpening was set for screen with standard amount. Mainly I was just curious to see if I or any of you could see the difference in these two photos in particular since there are so many fine details. The top one I re-sized with View NX-2 and the second one I let the Nikonites uploading software take care of it.
@Blacktop, I think I may just have to sign up for a Flickr-type account too one of these days.

Thanks for replies.

24 may be a bit low. 72 is a good number since that is generally what monitors show. Never let any website reduce your photos for you. They do a lousy job.
