Nice shot Jack! See if you can find a great shot of a Sparrow.

Then you can be a pirate! It will be Jack's Sparrow!

(I know. I get this way. Ain't a damn thing I can do about it!)

Nice capture, but I wouldnt have cropped the right so tight. I would have left somewhere for him to be looking at.

Thanks, guys, I appreciate the critique. Dave, he was actually looking at me! :) I was off to his right, about 20 feet away. Directly in front of him is my house. Just so ya know. That's why I cropped it so tight.

thats great Jack, glad you are happy with the new lens.
I have been using the two new lenses I got in the past little while. My 70-300 VR. I love and I am getting use to the new 55mm. macro lens as well. Between the two lenses I have taken a fair amount of pics. Including the circus yesterday.

Focus: Spot on. Nicely done! I think it's a hair soft around the edges, but not very noticeable.
Crop: I like it cropped tight. I want to see the bird, not the neighbor's house or 50 other things going on in the background.
Color: Might just be me, but I think this is a tad on the desaturated side. I would like to see some darker feathers and more red in the breast.

A great shot, Jack. But something just seems out of place here, and I can't quite put my finger on it. This bird looks fake to me. There is some incredible detail here, so I'm not sure if it's the pose or the grey background...but I would almost expect to see a price tag on its leg here.

Nice and crisp shots Jack. I like both of them (even the Jack Sparrow). Were these hand held or tripod/monopod?

I use the 70-300mm VR on my D90 usually, which gets me out to 450mm on the cropped sensor. The hawk below was a couple hundred yards away (200 meters +/-) and I steadied the camera on a guard rail. There was a flooded stream I couldn't get across or I might have got some decent shots of this bird. I'm told its likely a red tail hawk with albino properties.

I was not going to say anything, but now that it's been brought up I know it's not me. I have to agree with Anthony, the color need to be pumped up a little in the breast area at least. I like colors that pop, that why I didn't bring it up earlier, just my taste. BTW Great shot any way you look at it!

Thanks, Anthony, but this bird is definitely not fake! :) He's the poppa bird of the two that are living in my back yard. His mate built a nest over the light next to my garage door. :) As for the colour, what you see is the actual colour of this bird.......no Photoshopping or anything else done to the photo. I used my 55-300mm VR lens hand held, braced myself against the wall of my garage.

LOL.....price tag! lol I cracked up when I read that part! :) I'll take that as a compliment. :)
