I like the picture. I've always liked squirrels. I'm betting, however, you used photoshop to remove the background. All that white is now washing over the squirrels back. Did you erase the background for a reason?

Thanks. Actually, the sun was hitting behind the squirrel towards the lens. And the squirrel was dark when at 0 exposure. So, I overexposed in the camera to bring out the details of the squirrel making the background look almost white.

I just saw another photo done in the same way, over exposing the shot to white out the back ground and bring the subject into the light. I like the effect. I want to try it when I get home.

If you have a powerful enough flash, you can shoot with it in daylight for fill flash, and preserve the BG while capturing the subject in perfect exposure. If you are close enough, your popup flash will work for you. But the further away the more powerful the flash must be.

You can see in my series here http://nikonites.com/photo-critique/2679-day-beach-family.html where the sun is behind and above the subjects.

Thanks, but I thought not to scare the squirrel using the flash. In fact, that would have given a very clear background and making the subject stand out well.

I think its a great shot, nice and sharp in the face. You did great for what you were working with. Squirrels run away fast and I assume this was a quick capture and you did good in a pinch without scaring the squirrel more than it may have already been.

I think you're way overexposed here, as evidenced by 1/15 shutter speed, ISO 800 and the blown out highlights. Also, it looks as though the little guy has started to move, as the entire back half of his body is blurred. Nice capture, though. Wildlife (especially this close) is rare to come by.

Thank you...Yes, it was. Since I didn't want to miss the moment by taking a few shots. I took only 2 snaps 1) @ 0 exposure and it was underexposed. So cranked the exposure higher than 0. I had left the ISO set @ 800 for taking interior shots. Didn't get time to adjust ISO and went ahead shooting and did not use flash as well to scar the little one.
