Kind of a dreary park...

Interesting. I like how power lines compliment the vertical stacks and add to the composition. The lights kind of draw you around the image creating numerous focal points. The bleachers add to the irony. "dreary" is a good word and using black and white certainly adds to that feel.

I really like this shot. It reminds me of some of the oil refineries I saw when I lived in New Orleans (Pre Katrina). School playgrounds and ball fields right next to them.

This is the kind of stuff I look for when I'm out and about searching for photo ops. This refinery is one of the largest in the US, and supplies much of the midwest with its gasoline and petroleum products. One of the stacks (not shown here) can be seen for miles and has been dubbed the "Eternal Flame" from the fire atop that is always burning. The railroad traffic around this place is insane. The refinery is actually neighbor to the former Lima Locomotive Works (which is now a US Army tank building plant), so there's some very heavy industry in this area.

Rick pretty much nailed everything on the head that I was trying to accomplish with this composition. The lights are actually a lot brighter in the full-sized image. JPEG conversion and resizing have diminished their role here. I just can't imagine letting my kids play here. Asbestos before breakfast anyone?
