River mixed HDR with paintbrushes

It's snowing again and the contrast is lousy for photography. But as i was driving back home for lunch I saw this little river.
So I got out, no tripod, continuous bracketing -2 0 +2 raw and jpeg basic.
when I got home, I wanted to do something fast so I used the basic JPEG files to merge to HDR with CS5.
The results were a little dull with a lot of fringed pixels. So I added a few layers where I painted over the pixels with a brush trying to imitate trees.

So there it is.

Love the shot and what you did with it! Seems like we are in the zone of where a good pic crosses over into art. Thank you Marcel for sharing this.

Yeah, I can see the feathering attempt, Marcel. Does your camera have a WB control? I'd try lowering it for outdoor winter shots. And if your camera menu has a Vivid selection, I'd use that, too, rather than the Normal setting. I can't comment on anything done in CS5, as I am by no means any kind of an expert on this program. Someone with far more knowledge than me should be able to comment on that.
Another idea, too, Marcel, is to just crop out the upper part of this shot. I was thinking something like this. Agree or disagree?

I agree Jack, the whiite balance is probably set too high in my camera (it was on auto), and I probably went too high with the bruhes over the trees toward the back.
I still have the original photoshop file maybe??? but anyway, it,s just for fun.

Thanks,

Marcel

I think we discover more when we take the plunge and just try something new, I think that's what's been so exciting with the HDR approach. The purist will look to the shadows and look for the natural look throughout the image, I love what folks are doing to enhance, improve and create with the image.

Since Ive bought Photomatix, I'd like to post the outcome with this new (for me) program.
Here's the picture out of Photomatix and color improved in CS5. Oh, no brushing in this one.

I REALLY like this one, Marcel! Great detail and color in the trees, and the detail goes all the way back to the "vanishing point".

Thanks Helene. The snow sure came out better on this one. There is still some sky that I don't like too much. Just around the trees it seems to lighten up too much.
But hey, this is just for the fun of learning.
And fun it is.
Thanks for the comment.
