Modeling Shoot - NSFW! (Nudity)

NSFW - Not Safe for Work!

I don't know that there are any rules against this, so I'll post it and hope for the best. If you're offended by nudity, then turn back now. I've taken some precautions here and covered the R-rated bits. This is about posing and lighting, and not naked chicks...so if you're here for the wrong reasons, go get your freak on somewhere else!

Here are some of my favorites from my modeling shoot last weekend. This was the first time I've worked in a professional studio, and with a model. There were 8 photographers and 2 models in this large studio, which fit all of us comfortably. We had 2 sets going and would rotate shooting times with the models. It was a great learning experience, and I can't wait to do it again. Unfortunately, I didn't get a lot of time with the second model, so I don't have many shots of her...and none that are clothed.

Your feedback is most welcome and appreciated.

Anthony, I like the first three and I like the last one. That last one is the best, done gracefully, with finesse, and is a good composition. The other nudes are awkward, and clumsy. I would have thought the instructor would have done a better job in directing the posing on those. Only my opinion.

The last one and the second are my favorites, in that order. I love the lighting and the pose . . . like Joseph said, "with finesse".
I like the shooting angle and the way her eyes pop on the second one --good job.

I'm assuming this was supposed to be a "high key fashion" shoot? If so, then I'd say you earned a good grade!

On a side note, this is a pretty flexible model . . . I'd be in traction if I tried those poses (4 and 6)

Model 1: I have many photos of her, as I worked with her the longest. She poses nude for a local art college, so I assume she's used to contorting herself into all kinds of odd shapes. I remember her saying that she rarely poses in clothes. Model 2: Definitely the more experienced of the two, but unfortunately for me, I only spent about 10 minutes with her. As for instruction, the models were pretty much on their own. Some of the photogs gave a little direction, but I just let them do their thing. This was my first rodeo, and I was nervous enough...especially once the clothes came off.

The studio owner was an invaluable resource. I showed up early to the shoot, way early, in the hopes of helping set up. I learned a lot about setting up shots and using studio lighting, it was awesome. He helped with settings and stuff all day and was a great teacher. As for me, I was using a kit lens and have never taken as many photos of an actual person as I did this day. 200+ shots. The next modeling shoot is in early February, and I'm hoping to build on this experience for some even better shots next time. Plus...I'll have a new lens muhahahaha!

What a difference Lightroom makes!

Below is a comparison, the first being the new version that I tweaked with Lightroom vs. the original image done in Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop. The colors are so much more vibrant and and the tones have much more depth. At first I wasn't really sure that Lightroom was worth the expense, but I can tell already that it's going to help taking things to a whole new level.

A couple more from this past Sunday's shoot. And before it's even brought up, the answer is yes...I realize the second one is blown out. It was done like that intentionally so that certain body parts weren't visible. These were done for her boyfriend, who I'm told is a sucker for baseball.

I really like the fourth shot, which is the most interesting composition to my eye. I also like the last shot a lot. Perhaps a bit more direct eye contact into the lens would make it more intimate to me.
