Reflections...

I'll offer this up for critique. A long Japanese style bridge at the lotus farm. A very dull day with heavy cloud.

Nice photo. I wouldn't be so bold as to critique it but I think it might have been better if the pond didn't have lilies in it so that the reflection was bigger.

I can see it now. Brads takes Lawrence's comments to heart and Scott posts a news link to some crazy Aussie with a camera being arrested for ripping out the lilies.

Very nice! I can't decide if there may be too much in the foreground. I think you got the best of the setting. Nice shot!

GREAT shot for the setting, and nice depth of color! There's not enough of the reflection for me, though, so it almost feels... incomplete? It might be all of those lilies in the foreground, or... dunno. I'm not one to critique, though, just express my "still learning a lot" opinion.

If I may be so bold, I think it is basically a good shot, but the focus is lost with too much fore- and background. I straightened it slightly by eye and cropped top and bottom, which gives the bridge and partial reflection more primary emphasis. It is an awkward size, but there you go.

Nice photo, is there any chance of coming around more to your left? Also maybe a shallower DOF may have helped but I am unsure what Aperture you used.

Yes, needs levelling out a tad (I'm terrible at that and 99% of my shots have to be levelled out PP). I agree with the others that there's an awful amount going on in the water but, unlike the others, I think that helps to emphasise the way you've managed to line up the reflection in the channel of lilies you've ripped up! Nice to see some colour on a grey day, too.

Edit: Damn! I said I wouldn't comment on inmates' photos again. Oh well!

And thinking about it in the shower just now, this might be a really good chance to do some selective colour and put all but the bridge's reflection in B&W? Just an idea. I originally thought bridge and reflection but I think just reflection would make it a little bit more stand-out.

Sorry - really crap job but I wanted to see what it would look like. The family's kicking off here, objecting to me having some me time for the first time this weekend!

I think it could look quite funky, maybe with the lily flowers picked out as well.

You're all right. The more I look at this the more I want to go back and poison the lilies so I can get a better foreground. Until then, PS will have to do. Jeez mate (that's Aussie speak) those willow tree reflections are impossible to do. So I've given up. Upon 'reflection' I think there's too much crap in the picture anyhow, so I won't get too excited. Cheers, Brad :)

Fair dinkum. Have you tried turning it upside down to see the effect? I have - it's still crap, but someone's nicked half the willows!
