Took a picture of a crystal rose and played with the settings.

You have the makings of a beautiful shot. This is critique and I will be honest. I hate the background. It is two colors; two strikingly different colors and textures. There is absolutely no bokeh to the background so the rose is not isolated at all.

I would have liked to seen some creative colored lighting shining through, or onto, the rose for some color drama effect and a completely different composition.

I think you cut off the leaves is not that good idea and on the left you can see some ???? Maybe the glass-bowl. Not that great and the background as well. This flower is great so try to shoot again with more composition.

I would like the flower turned a little more towards the camera and not cut off.

Don't like the split color background.

Needs a bokeh background.

The flower is an excellent item to work with. I think it would be great to play with a soft focused light shining on to the flower in a dark room.

Master Yoda says, "So much potential it has."

You need multi-directional lighting and maybe a diffuser to get rid of the shadows. Are you able to stand the rose up and shoot from that perspective? Also posting EXIF data and intent would also be good :)

I'm going to try all these things. I can't do Bokeh because I don't have a lenses that can do it. I will when my 55-300mm comes in though. I have lights I can use too.

Here's a shot of a real rose, taken against a black background, with off-camera lighting and a bit of tweaking in LR4 and CS6. Notice how nothing detracts from the rose and all of the rose in in the photo.

Ok use mask tools and the lassoo tool and select around the rose but you can use a graduated filter tool to graduate the mask that you have selected.

I would have to say that straight off I'm not sure what your vision is for the shot. Looks like a glass rose that fell over during a tremor and you took a quick shot for insurance purposes. You need to isolate the subject if your trying to display the beauty of the shape and highlight the colour of the glass.

Ok,I got my new lenses and I'm going to give bokeh a try.I'm still waiting for some black cloth so I can make a back drop.
