Canada geese in a river

I think those geese should have gone south. :)

Sorry, that was not very helpful, was it?

The dark reflection on the left side of the water almost camouflages the geese, and the cables dipping into the photo on top are a little distracting. Maybe a little different angle could have fixed that? Difficult to say without knowing the circumstances.

Thanks, John. Yeah, it was a bleak overcast day today, hence the bleakness of the photo. Not much colour at all anywhere, specially the trees on the left of the shot. As for the wires.....yeah, I guess I could have cropped them out. Thanks for the critique, John. Appreciate it.

I like the bridge, and the lights, adds a bit of warmth. The wires just seem to intrude, but if you crop them, there go the lights :(

Jack, it's a good shot, very good depth which is hard to get on gloomy days. I would experiment with the cropping to see what works best. The geese are the subject and to me the bridge, lights and cable hanging down are distracting from the subject. (I know others disagree but that's OK) It's a cold, gloomy, wintery day and not much color but that's ok. I would try cropping it down to a wide horizontal and make the geese much more dominate. Leave the blue cast to emphasize the feeling of cold. There is some color in the trees and adding more contrast, saturation and vibrancy may bring it out.

hmmm. Interesting observations, Joseph. I shall give the cropping a try and see what I come up with. I'll post the cropped version later on and see what you think. Thanks, Joseph. :)

Jack, try all the suggestions and see which one you like. You're the one it has to please. A good shot often can be cropped a couple of different ways and still be a good shot.

I would try playing with the hue/saturation too. Maybe try taking pictures in "vivid" on gloomy days? Or set the white balance to "cloudy"
