First time at a Funfair

Well with a camera anyway. Here's some long time exposures of fairground rides when it came to town. Any feedback would be welcome, please go easy as this was my first attempt at a Funfair. 108LPSummercourtFair.jpg129LPSummercourtFair.jpg133LPSummercourtFair.jpg156LPSummercourtFair.jpg241LPSummercourtFair.jpg

Those are some really nice shots. Two considerations you might want to ponder, and I offer them without taking anything away from the shots you're displaying here because those really are well done.

1. Move your subject off center. In all of the above shots you have a really strong, clearly defined subject, which is critical. The perfect centering however, detracts somewhat from the vibrancy *OF* that dynamic. Your shots could go from "Nice shot!" to "WOW!!" with just a tweak in the framing.

2. You've used a slow shutter speed to capture the dynamic of motion and gotten some really good exposure and focus is spot on. The first and third shot sort of stand out for me, though, in that lines and elements are created instead of just a blur of solid color. Personally, I think this adds real punch to those shots in particular. They're *all* good shots, as I said, but I think there are definitely some things you're doing right in those two in particular.

Actually now that I look at them more closely, I'm seeing more of those elements I like so much in some of the other shots as well... I think my brain is still waking up over here.

NICE SHOTS! I'm envious!! I didn't get the chance to go to our fair this year, and these shots make me regret it.

That 1st shot, in particular, is fantastic! I'd almost like to see some rule of thirds used in the other shots, with a bit more wide-angle view to lend to the scene, or "story" of the shot, but you've done very well with all of the shots. Steady, in focus, nice exposure!

Great shots. 1 & 4 are my favorites. I was going to complain about the skew on #3 but then I noticed it's just the fence on the ride that gives it that look and not your framing. So if I had one critical comment it might be that #3 could have been framed better if only to orient the eye. The rest are great. Nice job.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and feedback. I had a fun evening taking these and look forward to the fair returning next year. Will get there earlier to get some ambient light in the sky. Also thanks for the feedback of going off center, the fairground was pretty compact so I initially thought that anything else in the shots would make it too busy or detract from the main subject. I will go for the off center look next year and see what difference that makes. Thanks once again.
