Gecko in leaves

Please share your thoughts regarding this photo, this is the little bugger that was in the tree hollow before, he is very skittish. I have tried to make him stand out while also showing his surrounds.

Added 2nd photo after receiving feedback.

There's a lot there to distract from your subject. A better shot may be of the gecko peeping out of the tree hollow, if he'll cooperate. I'd try a larger aperture to decrease the depth of field to make it stand out from the background.

Good tack sharp focus, though.

Check out my "other" photos of him ;)

But I do think you are right regarding it being too busy, I was hoping it would add to the overall photo but it may distract from the main subject.

Scott great catch,as far as distracting background on the first glance i searched for the subject for a split second,it didn't hit me immediately, don't know if that's enough for distracting.

I went out last night and reshot this. Will post a photo later tonight for comparison.

Here is the other one I took after getting feedback. Unfortunately there is a leaf stem right in front of him so thats why he is cropped so tightly.

I think I prefer your 2nd shot.
I can see what you were trying to do with the first one with all the surroundings in focus, but the 2nd one still has some of the leaves in focus with the OOF leaves at the back giving a better background to view the Gecko against.

Cheers mate, I think I prefer #2 aswell, but I like the fact that people have to "search" in the first photo, just shows how much they can blend in.

I love this shot cos I see every day Geckos here in Thailand and that shot is a great shot - Not so easy to catch and shows me your patient to get that one. That big rolled leave gives that photo the dramatic which it deserves.

Is just an opinion from an hobby-photographer
