Enlarging Photo Issue

When I take a picture and capture everything I want in the photo it looks great when it is opened on my camera and computer. But when I order a print and enlarge it to 8x10 or bigger, it basically crops of some of the detail. Here are 2 pics, first one of what I want and the second is how it turns out when printed as an 8x10. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I want the whole pic blown up as an 8x10 and not cut off the right side of the building.

Your camera takes the photo as a 2 x 3 image so in order to achieve the ratio 8 x 10 it must be cropped. And worse yet, when you go to put this in an 8 x 10 frame you'll fine the hole is really 7.5 x 9.5 so you'll have to crop your image once again!!! This was a point of one of my rants the other day, it's very annoying to have to crop your image several times.

what kind of software are you using to process your photos? If you have something that lets you crop and see the ratio try setting it to 8X10 ratio and you can see what is going to happen.

Custom framing is likely an expensive option, but something you could look into if you are determined not to crop. But you can also try using boarder material and use a larger frame. It's an old style option but it would work too. :)

Also consider using custom made mattes that will fit in standard size frames. Matte cutting is a bit of an art in itself but I'm told that with a little practice and a lot of patience you can produce mattes that look like they should.

My worry is....What if I wanted this photo enlarged to a 20x30....would it only be a picture of the head of the statue? Other words, I want a 20x30 poster blown up with the same ratio as the original photo. Is that possible?

Yes, provided you ask for a 20 x 30 print. Otherwise you'll have someone in the photolab deciding where and what to crop.
