Need a little feedback on this one - dog jumping

Not really sure I like it. The red line bothers me and the angle hides what is really going on. Better if it were a side angle I think. Colors are beautiful though

I'm with Don about the red - too glaring a difference. I'd straighten the frame based on the bar as well, then possibly crop it based on the rule of thirds. I love the expression on the dog. Just wish the bar was less obvious (white or gray) and it was framed a little better.

Yeah, not sure my idea works.... I had this series in mind, which should focus on what dogs do. Like this dog, who is an agility dog. I wanted to make the pictures out in nature, because I don't like the agility courses (is that the right word?), it's way too messy for my taste.

Maybe it's too weird.

Gonna "second" most of what Don has to say here. The red line is a real distraction. As for the angle, I'd would have liked to seen this shot taken "straight on", personally. Really locking on and getting full eye-contact with Rover, I think, would connect us to the shot profoundly.

The shot has very good clarity and color.

I agree about the in nature idea. Can you make the Jump natural also? A wooden split rail fence maybe? And shoot it at the same angle and maybe a full profile also. A little work for you but I think you have a great basic idea that would make a great finished product.

Very Lassie-esk (sp)

The dog is jumping out of the picture, if you do a shot side on, or even slightly side on, I think the dog needs to jump into the picture.

Kinda like this rough cut and paste.

Even jumping into the picture, I'd rather see a portrait shot to give height to the image.

A different crop wont work, as I got more orange stuff going on at the sides.. Even in B/W, it looks strange. Its because I spraypainted it :)

I just think straight on is what you always see, with agility. I wanted something different - but, well, didn't really work out.

Yes, I did actually talk to my husband about making something way better looking, for theese pictures. The agility stuff I (and most "normal" people) have, are that cheap plastic. Maybe the plastic just looks way to plastic-ish.

The girl took it really nice, she said ideas are meant to be tried out, and she would come again if needed :) So sweet of her!

Yeah, it doesnt work jumping out of the picture. I'll try portrait shot next time, dont really see it right now, but maybe you're on to something.

Thank you all SO much for feedback, I really appreciate it.

I like the idea of the wood split rail fence from Don, that would most likely work best in landscape.

If unsure try both, your dog looks like he/she could jump all day LOL.

P.S. just clicked "like" on your photo. It's not there yet but a great start and the focus is spot on.

Keep at it :)

Not putting the picture down at all, I would have fun with this pic. I would put a large explosion behind him instread of clouds and a title in the clouds like "RIN TIN TIN TO THE RESCUE!!" It is a good action shot though.

This is exactly how I would have cropped it.....showing the dog jumping into an empty space, not coming from an empty space. John beat me to it. :)

Call me strange but I actually like the image just as it is. This is a dog action shot. Dogs jump over things. There is a lot of tension in the image because the dog is already on his way out of the image. It is placed nicely against the backdrop of the hill which slopes down to the right of the image, nicely "carrying" the dog out of the frame. Even the dog's tail is sloped in the same way echoing the slope of the hill. There are bushes on the hill and even an interesting cloud filling the background in the sky beyond the hill. Something other than red would be ok, but the red gives it a touch of punch insofar as what the dog is interacting with. It could be an outdoor jumping competition, who knows, but the dog is overcoming an obstacle, at least that is how I see it. :)

I'm glad you see something in it! But I'm not happy with it, think its a good point that I need to find something that would fit more into the nature. I didn't make it easy for myself :)

I showed it to another girl who does agility with her dogs, first thing she said was, hmmm I'm not getting this new cliff-agility?
