That is the first one she ever put her name on! I Imagine a bit lower would be more appropriate, but my understanding is that it is important to claim ownership of your work so that it is not stolen.

I like the composition. I wonder how it would look in a 16:9 crop?

View attachment 299794I think this is better resolution.... Thank you for your comment Woody!

floridafan, this is a 16:9 crop that Woody mentioned. The ratio is closer to a panoramic than either of the ones you posted here. I hope it's okay that I did this for you. If not, let me know and I'll delete it.

And as for the watermark, it's always recommended to use one when posting online.

Thank you! Yes I do like the way that looks! I will recommend to my wife that she add a 'watermark' as opposed to just a signature. Thank you again!

Well...Woody really gets the credit for calling the 16:9 ratio!

Whether you use a signature or watermark is entirely up to your own discretion. I think Mike's comment had to do with where the signature was placed. Usually they are located closer to a bottom corner. Some people might post a watermark/signature right across the subject. Usually those might be for clients who are proofing images so they don't simply just keep them.

Of course, I've heard there are other ways to share images without doing that. One of our esteemed forum members, Don, passed recently. He had someone set up his web site so the images couldn't be downloaded. There is a discussion here on the forum somewhere that tells about it. Unfortunately since he is no longer with us, we can't find out any details other than what is already posted.

But your wife can use either a signature or watermark. I make mine as an adjustment brush. When I apply it, it creates a new layer just for my watermark. If I don't like the location, I can use the move tool to place it elsewhere.

Anyway...getting back to the 16:9 crop. Depending upon which post processing software you use, many offer preset crop ratios such as 5:7, 4:5, 2:3, and 16:9. Check to see if 16:9 is available on your computer. Nice image by the way! :)

Watermarks aren't really going to keep anyone from stealing your image, unfortunately. It's pretty easy to remove the watermark with almost any photo editing software. I use a simple signature as my watermark, that's just what I prefer. I also like to keep mine pretty small, and tuck it in the corner so it is just visible on a framed print. I'm not saying this is the "right" way, just giving my personal preferences. I like it to be like an artist's signature on a painting.

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. :)
