I am wondering if this photo hits it mark or am I way off?

It's kind of like climbing in with the tigers... What are you doing!? It's a perspective thing, I need to get eye level with them but the safety of the viewing platform is all wrong for my photo.

Soon followed up with an aaaaahhh....

I kind of figured it was one of those things you could only get what you could get. It's still a great photo.

Exposure is too hot on the large elephant's ears and back, and too dark on the small elephant. Even with fixing that best I could...

...the grass is too structured and looks like it was converted from a color image that had colors go over-saturated.

Better? Yes. Didn't realize you were working with a jpeg from a P&S, so that explains a lot. I would prefer if you can prefer some of the grass texture as a lot is lost, but somewhere in between the first and this would do it. The animals are much better.

The above is my D800 so yes I can retain texture etc.

Why they don't work for me. You've been on safari in East Africa, I've been on safari in East Africa. Of course we take a S load of elephant images as you see a S load of elephants. But which is the image that stands out from the, I was there memory shots? The first image is a stock image not very interesting, the second one/one's of a single animal are over exposed and again pretty stock. It may just be that these are shots that look better in color as well.
