I cannot believe how little people participate in this forum

People love to judge what others do. I know I do. It makes me look at my own work more closely.

This forum gets very little in the way of replies and actual rated critique. I can't figure it out.

Speaking for myself only, I can't offer a solid critique if I'm left guessing as to the photographers intent. More often than not photos are posted here with no context and no hint toward what the photographer was trying to capture. So unless the story or intent of the image is easy to figure out, I'm left without a basis on which to judge whether or not the image was successful. Those looking for critique really need to be explicit as to what the photographer wants the viewer to see and understand. Otherwise it's just a guess as to what the meaning of the image is.

I think that people are nervous about starting a flame war in regards to there opinion on a posted picture. I posted a picture and I'm thick skinned enough to hear peoples opinion..... bring it.

One problem is that people do not read the rules before posting. If you can't be bothered to look at the rules first then...... Dave is correct in that if you just put a photo up and don't tell us anything there is not much we can do.

READ THE RULES BEFORE YOU POST. If you are going to critique a photo then READ THE RULES. This is the only way you are going to learn.

Here are the rules.

I just went through and moved many that did not read the rules. In just the last few days over half did not fit in this section. Either to many photos (those went to daily section) or no EXIF or explanation on what the OP was trying to get in the photo (those went to feedback section)

I guess we will need to keep a closer eye on this section to make sure it is being used correctly.

The rating system are a bit of a mouthful for me, so I dont use it. I like reading others view at an image, but don't always reply myself - either because I would have said what someone else already mentioned, or because Im not sure how xxx could be done better or in which other way exactly.

But I'll try to be better answering, just 1 or 2 small suggestions can of course help a lot :)

The critique format of this forum is much more formal than most others that I have been on. I prefer Words/No words type of threads myself, am not looking for critique. I've seen forums killed off because some members insist on unsolicited and unwanted critiques.

What I believe you will get on this forum with such a formal process: a few members offering critiques, most will not adhere to a strict format.

I think if someone has anything to say it it will be done. Sometimes when I read a feedback which confirms my opinion I don't write my opinion. Not laziness of me but maybe a bit out of word for not repeat the written words.

And I think even a few ppl are writing a feedback is better then nobody cares.

That is why we have to separate sections. You want the Feedback section.
