Hi I have a question. I want to change the focusing screen on my D7100. I want a split screen micro prism I think it's called to help me with manual focusing and macros. I have one I ordered a long time ago unopened. It's a Nikon focusing screen but for a Pentax body. A K-7 to be exact. I have the specs here FK3 is that a good one and most importantly is it a good fit for the 7100? They also have something else checked off on the box. FS-45DS It's unopened and I don't have pentax gear anymore. Any info or suggestions would be welcome.

this one will take a bit of time. I know : )

thx,

I don't get it. You have both a focusing screen and a camera, but still want to know if it'll fit? Why not try it? If you want it in your D7100, what difference does it make if you have any Pentax gear any more?

Not sure why you think you have a Nikon screen made for a Pentax body. It's like saying I have a Ford alternator made for a Chevy. FWIW, I'd say it's not going to fit.

because I don't know if it will fit inside of the 7100, it's a nikon focusing screen and I'm new at this. I don't want to scratch or mess up anything. I bought it for a pentax camera

Even if it's a Nikon screen, odds are it still won't fit. Even across the Nikon line, focus screens were different. When I ordered my split-screen / microprism years ago, I had to scroll through several bodies before I found the D7100 listed.

I got a KatzEye, but they're closed up now. You might find one on Ebay or someplace similar, but it'll take some digging. Maybe one of the big online stores (Adorama, KEH, B&H etc) has a 'new / old stock' one.

I made a mistake, the specs I gave are for the one I put in the Pentax K-7. After rolling it around in my head. I realized that's the old box for the screen I had replaced. What I did end up finding was the (K3) focusing screen. TYPE K3, will that one fit like a glove?

I found a 2017 thread right here on Nikonites

https://nikonites.com/d7100/39210-focus-screen.html

I did do a search and it didn't come up, unless it was way down or on page 2

focus screen.com has the said "K3" $84 US. I'm so glad I held on to this one because on their site. It's listed for the D7100. And I bookmarked this website for when I may be brave enough to try it.

Nikon D4 D4s D500 D700 Focusing Screen Installation Instruction

and thanks for the video links as well. Reading up on it though. I read that you might need shims if it's off at all. It's dimmer than the actual screen. And it throws the metering off. But it doesn't affect regular auto-focus and AF points.

I looked for the factory screen that came out of my D7100, but I can't find it. I was hoping to take a micrometer to it and at least post the dimensions. But sadly... I can't locate the little buggar.

update regarding the focus screen. It appears it's for a full frame camera and I did buy it for a pentax K 3. A K-3 is not a full frame camera, so does that mean there is more room in the area of a pentax aps-c camera than a Nikon? I just sourced someone locally on ebay. Did some homework crossing fingers. But I'm willing to sell this screen I have because I'm touching full frame any time soon. Type K3 for FM3A. Better yet I'll take 2 pics and include it here

thanks
