Shutter release

Before starting this thread, I did a search of this forum and did not find anything newer than about 6 years old. With that being said, I'm in the market for a shutter release for my D5000 and I don't knew which direction to go. Wired or wireless. Which features are important or not. Since I'm really just getting back into the photography world after a lapse of close to 35 years, I'm a bit overwelmed by the equipment choices currently available these days. The subjects I'm most interested in are wildlife, macro, and scenery.

Can someone enlighten me?

I got this one off amazon. Can be used wired or wireless. I like having the option since I typically use it wired for astro but is handy being wireless for those times you might want to be in the pic too, or simply not attached to the camera. There are batteries in both the remote and the wireless transmitter, so there are twice as many chances for the batteries to die if using it wireless.

I bought a used Vello Shutterboss wired shutter release from Allen's Camera a few years back. I'm pretty sure they also had the PIXEL version that TwistedThrottle listed which is the same thing rebranded with a different manufacturers' name.

The nice thing is it has an intervalometer - not all shutter releases have that option. Vello also makes wireless remote shutter releases, but I think they cost a little more. However, every once in a while B&H will put some of them on sale although not all have the intervalometer.

If you aren't familiar with an intervalometer, this video might give you an idea of what it does in case you want that feature in a remote shutter release. There are other reliable brands out there, too - just giving you info on what I own. I also have a Vello wireless shutter remote that doesn't have the intervalometer. A wireless remote would be helpful in situations where you want to photograph wildlife while you are a safe distance away.

I know it's been awhile since your original post but I'm wondering if you ever pulled the trigger on a remote shutter release?
Just saw your post recently.
