the tripod i currently use although good spares are getting difficult, it also has a very small platform and i had to purchase an older one to get a larger platform to support the Gimbal head, its also not the lightest of items.

looking at current tripods i cant decide whether i need a column or not. ive sorta decided it will be carbon legged.

Ive looked at 3LT and there platforms come off and attach direct to the tripod and i know there good stuff, i made the mistake at looking at Gitzo self levelling and very rapidly closed the page lol

any others out there that won't break the bank that i can look at - needs twist locks as not a fan of snap clips after watching my friends fail - he's a good catch

budget max £250

So until I can afford a dedicated tripod for my gimble I’ve taken the used broken tripod I made the mistake of buying and cut it up to make a short column I can leave on the gimble base and just swap columns in the field or at home C26A9B54-C0A6-4EEB-BB21-C71A58BD65B9.jpg

If you are looking for a tripod without a center column, those are usually called systematic tripods. The thing is if you have a center column, you have the choice whether or not to use it. Tripods without a center column tend to be quite sturdy. 3 Legged Thing is good from what I've heard although I've never used one.

Personally I prefer the twist locks because they are easy to grab. When the tripod is closed, I can grab all three locks at once on one leg and loosen them simultaneously. No suggestions for any specific tripod though. I have a tall aluminum Gitzo that I love as well as a tall carbon fiber Gitzo. Seems I grab the aluminum one the most (the aluminum ones are no longer made). Benro is also quite good. I have an aluminum one that isn't quite as tall, but my go-to is the aluminum Gitzo.

Thanks , I’ve been looking at 3LT as I have a monopod of theirs and it’s brilliant, I think some of there tripods also allow the center colour out and the spider to attach straight to the legs no column. Yeah I’ve looked at Gitzo and my bank account had a heart attack followed by me lol , I’ve seen and alu Benro systematic Version on eBay I’m watching it at the mo

I have a 3LT Billy and have removed the center column. Works great with my Benro Gimbal, D500 and Tamron 150-600.
what size is the base on your gimbal as mines 65mm i was told the 3lt was 46mm on the attachment so would have a lot of over hang which is the issue i have on my normal post not my modified one lol

Amazon sells a lot of less expensive items - an unknown name tripod isn't one of the things I'd buy. You're putting an expensive body on a tripod that might not hold up. You might want to look at brands such as Feisol and Induro. Not all companies use the word systematic in their descriptions yet have tripods without center columns. Both of these companies offer excellent quality.

I am follower of Hudson Henry on YouTube. H is a straight shooter regarding landscape photography. His reviews on gear have been reliable. he recomends a Robus RC-5570 Vantage Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod. It has good reviews and likely will be my next tripod purchase. It is a bit out of your budget, but I thought I would share it.

Sorry for the jaw pain, but it is less than the Gitzo. I have a Gitzo I bought used and it is solid, but has a center column I do want one without a center column and this looks reasonable. saving a bit here and there.
