    25" octabox

    25" octabox
I wanted a small octabox for an upcoming daycare shoot. After reading Cindy's thread below I decided to go with the one she chose but with the white lining. The photos below were taken six feet from the backdrop with an AD200 with and without the honeycomb grid. https://www.adorama.com/glbdez25w.html

Andy, do you have some type of a subject you can use? Maybe a stuffed animal or a doll? Typically softboxes aren't used to light a background this way. I hope the beauty dish will work well for your daycare shoot!

I'll see if I can find a subject.

Those look good! The larger the softbox, the softer the light. For your daycare photos, I'd suggest exposing for the background and allowing the backdrop to show up then factoring in your light(s) to illuminate their faces. The daycare images wouldn't need to be as dramatic as these.

Is your other softbox a parabolic style (umbrella-type that is easy to set up)?

Thanks! Yes, other is a 60" https://www.adorama.com/glsbez60octa.html The 25" should be handy for a hair/rim light as well as being more convenient on location.

We're going to use a Christmas theme backdrop and will have a separate light for it. I won't use the grid on the softbox for the daycare shoot.

My sister has been a pro portrait photographer for 40 years or so and she has been coaching us. Robin has been on several shoots with her and I went on one last week. I was surprised how close in she was with the kids. I figured that the large softbox would be in the way.

I am keeping watch for Adorama's Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales on the Glow Beauty Dishes. I wouldn't mind getting another one in a different size.
