That's a lot of images to lose if it dies and you are the sort or person to leave it in your camera and only empty it when full.....

Definitely true, Kevin! Personally I'd rather use cards that don't hold as much and swap them around from time to time. It's much less expensive to replace a cheaper card when it fails. And like you said, if a person doesn't back up what's on it, that could be a huge problem.

I only have 128 GB cards even in my D850. It still gives me plenty of RAW Files. After the shoot I always download the images to my laptop hard drive and external drive and then reformat the card. Personally, your mileage may vary, but I think it is a very bad idea to let too many images accumulate on the card, for reasons already stated

And $550? Man I could get at least 1 used MF AIS Nikkor for that!

64 Gig is plenty big enough for me...I “empty” it after every shoot or daily ... but depends on what I’m shooting, where and when.
I don’t video. Frankly I’d be more impressed with super fast than super sized. I carry an external ssd drive and that itself get backed up automatically to my home server.
So an SD card of this size seems to really just increase the risk of losing your shots.

Perhaps its in anticipation of 8k

From reading the article, it seems to be geared towards those shooting 4k - allowing them more than cards currently on the market.

Since there are 1TB portable hard drives out there for much less cost, even using the card to store images doesn't make sense. It will be interesting to hear who ultimately chooses to invest in them. But perhaps that won't be too many DSLR NEF shooters.

One can't exactly put a 1tb portable drive in their camera's card slots....... :p

No, but it really isn't an ideal place to store images either - especially for the price. But hey...it might be ideal for a few.

The card is useless for high res video since its write speed is too slow, 30mb/s is barely suitable for stills. If this is the best that SD can do with large capacity, SD is dead for high res video and CFExpress/XQD will be the standard for all new higher end cameras. There are just too many limitations and weaknesses of the whole SD bus system to consider it for higher end work.

It is too expensive. Therefore, just wait.
In my case I find it very interesting not for the camera but for my notebook, originally it has a very small (256Mb) HD and a slot for an SD. All the apps are in the HD and Data in a 128Mb SD card.
For photos, I connect to external drives that I don't take for trips, that's why I would use it in place of the 128, but at a significantly lower price... Patience...
