I would do as you suggested but one wall has units on it the full length, seen this on ebay would this be suitable https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-Banner...334708?hash=item3cfd936b74:g:4SYAAOSwopRYecCV

What do you mean by units on the full length of the wall? Also since your wall is only 6 ft (72" wide) is this accounting for the "Units" on the wall? The ad says the stand has a Width range: 70inch - 96inch you need to make sure this is the total width of the stand and not just the minimum length of the adjustable rods as you only have a maximum 2" to play with. If it will fit, it looks like it would work and pass the wifee test.

The wall is 8ft wide but the fitted units take up 2ft so im left with 6ft to work with
If you want something professional looking the Westcott X-Drop might work for you. They have them in sizes small enough to work in the space you have available. There are other versions of this backdrop, just search on something like "x-frame backdrop".

If you want to go the ghetto route, build a frame out of PVC pipe like I did: My $35 DIY, Backdrop Frame. You would need to adjust the dimensions of course but you could probably eliminate the center column altogether, which would make things even easier to put together and cheaper as well.

Buy a curtain rod kit with brackets and mount it to the wall.

PVC on top of two light stands or buy this nice/tidy little package :)

Grab two people, put them on chairs and have them hold up the corners of an old blanket or bedsheet.

Staple, or glue, your subjects to the ceiling and shoot while lying on your back on the floor beneath them.

Burn down your current home, collect the insurance money and buy a bigger house with more wall space.

.....

At this point, I'm fresh out of ideas...

Post a pic, so we can help you better.
Using the wall is the best bet. Holes can be filled. Lets see the room, maybe there is another way.
