I'm searching for a backpack large enough to hold two gripped bodies (D810, D500) a 200-500 lens plus at least two other lenses. Each manufacturer seems to have a different method for describing the capabilities of their products so I am somewhat confused. Does anyone have knowledge of a backpack bag that would fit this requirement?

Gee, I used to load up my gear, drive down to the camera store and try out bags until I found one that I liked and it held everything. Good luck with that now days!

Tenba 32L. In my case with D500 + 200-500, D7100 + 12-28, plus four other lenses, two small flashes and a pocket cam

Lowepro has a bag finder that works pretty good https://www.lowepro.com/bagfinder

Should have mentioned this: while I really like the Tenba as it is a very practical backpack and it has a sturdy but lightweight frame that gives it sufficient support, the one shortcoming is that it does not come with enough dividers. Several of those in my pic come from another bag. If you order one, also look on Amazon for generic Velcro dividers and order a few of those if you prefer.

I am happy with my Lowpro Pro Tactic 450 AW I got for Christmas. I don't currently have it set up to carry the 200-500 lens, but it can. I currently have the gripped D750 w/24-120 Lens, D7100 w/70-300, two flashes (yongnuo), flash triggers (two), battery chargers, 11-16mm Lens, extra grip battery holder, rocket blower and lens cleaning stuff, filters..........

I have the Lowepro Pro Tactic 450 AW. A gripped D500 with the 200-500 mounted leaves very little room for much else. I can get the gripped D810 body in there without a lens mounted plus one small lens and a soft bag of accessories. I really want to have the D500 with 200-500 mounted and the D810 with 16-35 mounted which the 450 AW wont let me do. Maybe I need to use a bigger tire iron to get things in:cool:

For whatever it's worth:

- The problem I had with larger bags was that they were uncomfortable to hike with. Sure, they held all the gear. And that made them too heavy. An issue for me especially was trying to pack the 200-400 which was bigger than the 200-500. But with two D3 bodies the 70-200 the 200-500 a flash spare batteries water bottle energy bar filters etc etc etc, the bag was just too heavy. What I did was sling one or both bodies, out of the bag. Then I could take a smaller bag. Won't work for rough weather, but make sure that the weight of everything you want to pack will be alright for you and your photo adventure is just my point. Two or three hours/days into a hike/trip is NOT the moment when you want to discover your pack is way too heavy and uncomfortable.

- The larger bag I settled on was the Ape Case 400. This one

it also has a sleeve for a laptop and I love that it's a roller when I want that, a backpack when I want that. It's surprisingly comfortable as a backpack, but I wouldn't hike any significant distance with it. It takes my D3s and 200-500.

Good luck.

I would imagine the Gura Gear 32L would do it, and the 26L might as well. Kind of depends on sizes of the other lenses. I have this bag, and the 26L which I've carried all over the world. On safari, I carried an 810,800, 7100 (no added grips), 300 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 14-24 f2.8, 1.4 and 2.0 TCs in the 26L bag. It was heavy :) . Nice bags IMO. Attached pic is the 32L bag with a 400 f 2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 14-24 f2.8, 1.4 and 2.0 TCs, two D850s. I just got this bag and am still working on optimum placement, not quite there yet I think. Good Luck.
