Need a XQD card reader

Got my Sony reader for free with the Sony card. Until you figure it out, connect the camera directly or just use the SD card slot with the fastest card you've got.

I was going to order the Lexar but have read about corruption problems, anyone use the Lexar and is it good.

I haven't found a need for an XQD card yet. I have a couple of lexar 633X cards that fill my needs perfectly. I rarely burst off more the 10 shots in a row.

I've got both a Sony and a Lexar XQD card reader. Can't say I've noticed any difference between then ... I only went with Lexar because that's what my SD/CF reader is, and then one of my Sony cards came with the Sony reader. Since I back up across both XQD and SD, I just use the SD card for transfering images to the computer.

You have made me think with this,I could get a faster than the 95mbs sd card i have and use the XQD as a back up, if i ever needed the back up files i could use my cable.i was going to buy a faster SD card anyway.
I know its not our normal style but you may have saved me money :D

I've been kind of wondering about this. If you use an XQD card and an SD card as a backup, wouldn't the SD card slow down the buffer making the XQD card a moot point?

That is certainly my way of thinking so i think a fast SD card and my XQD slot as backup could work for me,just need to get out and see how good 95mbs is for me and possibly buy a faster one,i dont see me needing more than 6 or7 fps for BIF any way.

I shot with the SD only in the D500 until my XQD arrived a week or two later.

I have the "Extreme Pro" 95mph SD and the 400mph XQD. I expected to be blown away by the difference in file transfers - not so much.
I didn't measure it but it both were 'fast enough' that I didn't have time to brew a coffee with either one.

I purposefully looked for a card with 'free' reader. Ended up paying about $30 more for a slightly slower card just to get the 'free' reader. That same reader can be ordered separately but it costs $85 CDN - the 32GB card and reader was $105, the card alone is $89. (all prices from Vistek) These are Sony's.

I did look at the Lexar but a review on B&H's site about how slow the Lexar bundled reader was made me pause. And the only cards that have ever failed for me and I've had lots of cards, lots of makes, only ones to fail were two of the Lexars. Makes me shy about buying Lexar, sorry to have caused the company to fail by my boycott but I prefer Sony.

I am looking to buy another XQD so I have two, just in case.
I just like to have two cards in my camera. I could say it is to ensure redundancy which would imply I use one to back up the other but I don't. The honest reason. I take the cards out of the camera to download to the PC - and forget to put it back, grab the camera and opps, no memory card. Doesn't happen with two cards (well hardly ever).
