The negative carrier was sticking in the loading tray causing the scanner to occasionally brain cramp when it initialized. When you fed the carrier to scan a negative it would hang up and then jump and start moving again. Unfortunately no scan was possible with this happening. I took the scanner apart today and found that the lubricant on the two guide rails had dried out in places, causing the sticking. I removed the rails, cleaned then thoroughly with 91% denatured isopropanol and then re-lubricated them with high grade silicone grease. I put everything back together and pushed the power button, hoping for the best but being prepared for the worst. To my delight, the scanner initialized perfectly and took a slide carrier with ease. This scanner makes such amazing scans I am so glad it is back working!

I had curtailed shooting any film the last few months because I had no way to scan it and had no access to a darkroom to print the negatives. At least now I can still digitize negatives and publish them to the web until I can get home and hand print them. This is a very old tombstone in Micanopy FL. The scanner scans at 4000 dpi, which produces basically a 24MP image, 4000 x 6000 pixels.
