Yes/No: LCD screen protector?

Just wanted to gather thoughts on any value of bothering with LCD screen protector films for the back of cameras.

I personally never bother with such applications.

What do you guys think about it?

I have one. I also had one on my first camera. To be honest I can't say if I need one or not, but protection is good....right? :D

I've been using the Healing shield glass screen protectors for awhile now. For 12.00 each it is cheap protection. I HATE scratches on the lcd screens. Though I baby my gear so much. I doubt I'll have to worry about it. But, you never know!

The original back screen cover glass is $20 to $25, so I don't see much point in "protectors." The back screen cover glass is a screen protector. I have never scratched a back screen glass to this day, but I once broke the top screen glass of a D3S. The replacement part was $9 and required all of 10 minutes work with a hairdryer.

The back glass is a screen protector, so protecting a protector with another protector feels excessive. It is glued to the outside of the camera body and comes off easily once you first gently heat it with a hairdryer.

If anybody scratched the back glass, original new ones for example here: Access Denied

EDIT: WTF LOL why the link shows as "access denied" ? How about this: https://goo.gl/8Sr6W6

All my Nikons came from the factory with a polycarbonate plastic protector that snaps on. I never felt the need to remove it, or put any films on it.

Yes, good memory, I remember those too. I think Nikon stopped including those in the D3 era. None of my D3 or D4 cameras came with one. The D2 series did, but I've lost them long ago. And no need for those since the back glass is tempered, hard to scratch, and costs only $25 to replace.

They still had them on the D810 and D7200. The D700 came with them as well. Might just be the D* series cos my D4 hasnt got one. I remove them anyway as you can't see the screen clearly enough

Granted, the replacement part is not expensive, but how easy is it to replace?
Is it a do-it-your-selfer? Just how easily do these bodies pop apart?
I once took the top cover off of my Minolta SRT101 when I was in H.S./college, but I felt I was pushing my luck, there. I did get it back together in working order, though! :)

I bought a D610 lin November 2015. It had the plastic cover over the LCD.

There's something to be said for each side of the coin. My way of looking at it is I don't want anything that glues onto my screen, if that's how a screen protector works. I don't want the hassle of prying it off if I decide I don't like it. I guess I might be wrong about the glue, but I just don't want something clinging to my screen. I've never used them and never scratched a screen.

It's on the outside. Hairdryer warms it in a few sec so that the glue softens. 10 minute job max.

I used a "Hoodman" on my D50 for the longest time. It hooked onto the viewfinder and covered the LCD. You could flip it open and it shaded the screen so it was easier to see in bright light. I went through 2 so far but after the last one got knocked off somewhere in a bag or pile somewhere last year and I haven't tried to replace it. I'm a big fan of screen protectors for phones and even had one on a smart watch.

I haven't bought a screen protector for anything including my iPhones in years, so not something I go spend money on.

I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else to get one, but the ones I've used do not use glue that sticks to the screen. I am able to remove them with my fingernails if I wish to. Now, I do have to be careful when doing so as to not break the glass as I'm removing it since it is extremely thin.

The D7100 has one of those flip up screens doesn't it? I wouldn't consider that a risk of being scratched. I wouldn't bother with a protector for it.
