I bought this from B&H and it does what I wanted it to do - allow me to put multiple flashes inside my Apollo Softbox as shown.

I have read that while there is a significant benefit to bundling two flashes, the benefit of three is not as great.
Strobist: Considering a Three-Way? Here's What You Need to Know.
But even for recycle time two is a good choice and three is OK as you can reduce the power and increase the time between battery changes and reduce recycle time - win win.

BUT here is my issue. My SB-700 would not fire when in TTL mode.
I'm using a Godox X1 Receiver. That system needs the flash in TTL mode if you want to control the power from the trigger on the camera.
The SB-700 will fire once in TTL, then appears to recycle, red light comes on 'beep' ready sounds and click - no flash - but the flash unit then goes through the recycling sequence again.
In "M" the SB-700 does fire - but only at the power setting on the flash unit, not what is dialed into the trigger unit. No control - only a simple flash.
This Apollo softbox encloses the flash, getting to it after set up to change power setting would be a bother. Remote control would be best.
My SB-600 works as it should with the TTL. Swapped the units all around and it did not matter.
IF I put the SB-700 on top of the Godox, then the TTL works. But on on this FA-300HS's hot shoes.

I tried my Metz AF-2 58, and it works as it should in TTl.

I even tried an old Vivitar Auto-Thyristor 2800-D and wonder of wonders - it fires. No TTL mode on this 100% manual flash. But I had bought it for $5 at a Thrift shop, was able to try it with some batteries, it flashed so for $5.00 why not. Later learned I'd bought the "Minolta-Olympus-Pentax" version and it would not fire on my Nikons. But it fires on this gizmo - and it fires on my Godox receivers. new life for an old paper weight. But I digress.

Anyone have any idea why this the SB-700 and this gizmo don't play nice together?
