Nikon Flash question

I am thinking of getting a flash for my D7100 where I mainly use my 18-70mm 3.5, but I also use my 55-200mm f4.5. Most of my pictures are outside, but I have done some inside work as well. I purchased my D7100 as a Nikon refurbished, so I was thinking about going the same rout with my flash. My question should I get a SB-700 new or Refurbished or should I get a used SB-800. I want something that is going to last and powerful enough to bounce light of ceilings or what ever I may need. I would love to hear your recommendations!

My reason for staying with Nikon is off the camera use.

Thanks

I have two Nikon SB-910s that only ever mate up to my camera bodies, and then usually don't leave the home studio. The Yongnuo 568EX's go with me everywhere else, and the 622 triggers are great. You can get a couple 568s with triggers for the price of one Sb-910.

My suggestion: Save yourself about two and a half metric tons of cash.

Yongnuo 568 EX - $100
Yongnuo 622N kit - $80

My GF and I like our Nikon flashes well enough, but the Yongnuos are the flashes we actually rely on.

Yes to both of these comments.

Never used a Nikon flash, so I can't comment on them, but the Yongnuo 568EX is nice. One day I will probably add a 565 or two and some 622 triggers.

Well if you want heavy duty then definitely go for the nikon... any flash from Sb600, 700, 800, 900 can all be affordable options. You can also go with several yongnuo lights as they can work with Nikon's TTL system.

I looked online at the 685. They claim it is the 568 with a 622 built in I think. I did see one negative saying that it had a problem when the distance from the transmitter became too great (30' or so, I think. It was late and I'm not sure my mind was functioning. Ha!) I think that if I wanted another flash like the 568 I have, I would strongly consider the 685. It is close the same price and has the receiver addition.

OK thanks everyone, I just ordered my Yongnuo 685. I will let you know what I think after it comes in and I play with it a bit!

Ok, I got my YN682 flash and love it so far!! Now it is time to take it off camera. So I know to do this right I need a 622n-tx trigger, so I am ordering that, but can't I trigger it from my D7100 without that? I set the camera flash to commander and I thought if I had my flash raised on the camera I could trigger the 685, but I have tried setting the 685 to multiple with both flash and camera using channel 1 and nothing, I have tried on TTL nothing, I have tried manual. Maybe I just have to wait on the 622n, but I thought this was a possibility as long as it was line-of-sight this would work?? Just curious.

Thanks again!!

So you're saying you want to fire the 685 as an optical slave using the D7100 pop-up flash as the Commander? I'd need to see the technical specs to be 100% certain, but that being said I don't think the 685 works as an optical slave.
