Filters...

As far as I noticed most of the effects in our pictures are software adjustable so my question is are there any effects that can't be added or removed by software? Are there any must have filters or having some of them is just an option?

Circular Polarizer and Neutral Density filter. The ND filter will slow down your shutter speed to allow moving or choppy water to appear smooth--the final results depend upon the strength of the filter used.

So the only problems that photographers have are with water reflection as I understood. What ND filter does? Which effect is reduced by it?

The ND filter is a dark filter that reduces the amount of light getting into the camera. In bright situations, where you would normally have to shoot a stopped down aperture and a super high shutter speed, etc to avoid blown out scenes, the ND filter reduces the light and lets you manage your shutter speeds, etc to get more pleasing effects like milky smooth water that would normally appear as being very rough and choppy. See Harks post above. ND filters can be purchased in different "strengths" or some are darker than others allowing more or less light in depending on the value.

Another benefit to an ND filter is when taking photos of a busy street. Quite often there may be people or moving vehicles that you won't want included in the photos. Depending upon the circumstances as well as the strength of the ND filter, sometimes those things can be eliminated in camera rather than in post.

shot w/o filters. Falls where in the shade. Asa 100 f/22 or something shutter speed a couple of seconds.

Well, how about that. Ha! No EXIF data so I was guessing. It does illustrate the effect of an ND filter anyway. LOL Thanks for the clarification, Ron.

Now, when some of "us" got the point about ND filters 😃 what would be the best ND filter producer out there on the market, ofc for a reasonable amount of money ? Same question for the polarizing filters? ☺

"Best" and "reasonable amount of money" do not usually go together... If I had to choose one brand over all others it would probably be Hoya.

B+W makes good stuff but they can be pricey.

Exactly! I just have found those 2 brands that you mentioned as 2 leading and I guess I will go for Hoya. Better question would be "....the best possible for money in relation price - quality". Thanks!

I have Hoya Circular Polarizer filters that have been good. I also have, but have not had the opportunity to use, an ICE ND filter. I bought it on the recommendation of others on this site. It is priced right and from reports does a nice job. It is not terribly expensive like some others.

I will definitely go for Hoya brand. What does prefix ICE in the name means? I guess it's all about cold blue color in tonality or so.
