Filter cases or pouches that enclose the whole filter

What do you guys use for storing filters? Looking for something that fully encloses/protects the filter, and that holds (at least) three 77mm filters and one smaller one.

Been looking at various cases/pouches/wallets/boxes. I see many that look good but the reviews caution that while they claim to hold say 77mm filters, they only cover half the filter in a sleeve or mesh, leaving the rest exposed, even when the pouch was folder/closed.

Also some of these options look like they would really scratch up the filter when sliding them in and out of their sleeve.

I still have the original plastic box the filters came in... I guess that's a solution as well, in terms of just using a camera bag with slots to hold filters in their original cases.

Anyway ,was just curious what others use to store multiple filters!

I use the boxes they came in. Mine are all B+W and those filter boxes are pretty decent. I have those I frequently use in the camera bag while the others are stored at home.

Hadnt seen the stack caps before. Interesting idea - kinda like the using original case to throw in the camera bag, but with its own top and bottom protective screw-in caps.

(I see they are stackable as well for multiple filters in one stack, but I dont think I would ever do that ; would rather keep it simple and use set per filter....but as you say, that become a pricey option with these caps.)

Perhaps there is a cheaper non-threaded version, ie a simple set front and rear cap pair for lens filters....but I haven't found it yet ;)

Stack caps for many of my filters. Singh-Ray VND and B+W CPL go into a Filter Fish pouch made by ProMaster, but now discontinued.

That's exactly what stack caps are.

Or, find some super-cheap UV filters and use them. Of course, glass & plastic will break, while metal stack caps won't.

Actually I was asking if there were any non-threaded versions available (the part you removed the quote)

If available, those would be more affordable if I wanted one set per filter. I don't fancy the idea of stacking all those pricey filters to each other, or over- tightening them, or transferring dirt from one to the other, or worse, dropping or losing the whole set at once. I just prefer to keep them separate.

Currently, the cheapest threaded stack caps up here are $15/set. Not the end of the world, but for now Ill just use the original cases until something else comes along.

What good would non-treaded ones be? Wouldn't they just slip off?

If you're worried about 'transferring dirt', have you ever looked inside your lens caps?

You're worried about dropping filters? What about dropping your lens...... or your camera?

Never mind. You have enough to worry about. I won't bother trying to find solutions for you.

Nope. A non-threaded product would simply be a less bulky version that the original case (also non-threaded).

I am not "worried" about anything. I was simply doing some research and was summarizing some of the observations made by others, that I can empathize with. I didn't make this stuff up! I am always concerned about my camera ( who isnt) and use a strap ; yes I am concerned about dropping lenses, which is why I handle them with care, but I dont see how that relevant to the discussion!

This is the one I use. All six pockets will completely enclose 77mm filters: $8 Filter Wallet Thingy from Amazon. Pretty sturdy too. The picture shows the filter sticking halfway out of the pocket but in use the filter sits fully inside the pocket, even my 77's.
....

I like it. Tons of great reviews/recommendations as well. The halfway pic did throw me off at first, so thanks for clarifying it actually sits inside the pocket!

If you're looking for non threaded caps you could conceivably use a plastic pinch cap (basically a lens cap). There might be some cheap third party ones... but I'm not sure how cheap they are (vs. a stack cap), they're plastic and I'm not sure what you would stick on the back of the lens (perhaps a pinch cap would fit on that as well).

As a plastic non-threaded cap set isn't really a common product, and the stacked ones are too pricey for me (when used one per filter), I think the wallet option would work best for me right now. It would hold all my filters as well as step-up rings and gives me a spot to place the filter I am removing (which at times could be a protective filter on a smaller lens). Plan B is to use the original boxes. Good to have options!

I just went back and double-checked mine (because I'm paranoid like that) and yes, the 77's fit all way down inside. The bottom two pockets have a seam along the bottom so the rim on 77's stick out a tiny bit, but that's it. It's a good little filter pouch for sure.
