Eye-Fi Mobi cannot be used in D7000's slot 2?

Hi all,

I purchased the Eye-Fi Mobi last weekend, and now I've been testing it with my D7000. I've experienced major issues with this combination when taking the pictures: 1) card is freezing and then I get an error message which says that the card "cannot be used, card may be damaged.." or 2) after taken the shot I try to check the picture but the camera freezes (sometimes with the previous picture on the display and sometimes with a blank screen). Also the file transfer is not fully working: I'm taking the picture and the wi-fi connection is established to my iPad/iPhone (tested with both), but when taking pictures I only manage to transfer 2-3 pictures before the Eye-Fi app freezes and after a while the connection is lost.

I contacted the Eye-fi customer support and they told that the Eye-fi "card works best when in slot 1. The reason for this is that slot 1 actually gets more power than slot 2 and our card has a higher power requirement than standard SD."

This is not an option for me since I want to shoot RAW's (to slot 1) and only have the jpg's (in slot 2) for quick sharing and file Mgt purposes.

I tried to search if there are any potential problems with this combination already before purchasing the product (Eye-fi), but I understood that the card should work in both slots with D7000.

Have any of you experienced this type of problems? Could it be that I just have a defective card? I have updated the camera firmware to A1.04/B1.05.

I think that's just rubbish what the customer support told you..
Cos everyone i know uses it in the setup like you stated..

Anyways, why not try using it in Slot 1?
Set Slot 1 as JPG & Slot 2 as RAW (am guessing that's possible)

if that doesn't work then better get a replacement or your moneyback

That's not possible, unfortunately. If you're splitting cards then RAW->1 JPEG->2 is your only option.

I've got a D7000 and have no issues with the card in slot 2. It sounds to me like you have a bum card.

Thanks for confirming that Jake.
That makes what the CS rep said even more incredible :D

Thanks for the quick replies! I tested the card in the slot 1, and still the file transfer freezes. Also when trying to playback the pictures in the camera it gives me blank screen. I'm gonna return this card and try a new one....

Not necessarily. He'd just need to send both RAW and JPEG to the card in slot 1.

Are you trying to transfer everything or selected photos? I found that the tagging (i.e. using the lock image key) and then transferring works best as opposed to transferring everything as taken.

I went back to the store and tested a new card (same product but with new package...), and with this everything was working. I did couple of test rounds so that first I took the pictures, checked them in the camera, took some more shots with high speed without any problems. Then I tested the direct mode with Eye-Fi app (iPad) and everything worked nicely. I did another test round at the store and still no problems.

Conclusion: it seems that first card was just defective one and now everything is working as it should. Eye-Fi card in slot 2 (for jpg's) and normal SD-card in slot 1 for RAW's. I'm happy... :)

Thanks for the support, hopefully my next post to this forum will be about something more positive... ;)
