Need a small bag

I'm shortly to be getting a D810 with 24-120mm f4 lens & will be taking it on holiday (vacation). I will only take the single walkabout lens & need something suitable to carry it.

Can anyone suggest a small bag that would carry just the body with lens attached? It would need to be water-proof or have a water-proof cover.

@carguy

Thanks for your quick reply. I do need some weather proofing, we are going to Ireland. It rains, a lot! :eek:

I was going to mention that I don't really like the holster type case, my opinion is that they scream out CAMERA & make me look like a tourist. ;)

Here's a couple things I found, does anyone have any thoughts?

This bag is to hold a D810 + 24-120mm f4 lens attached. It needs water protection & is intended has a vacation or grab bag.

Retrospective 5 (Black)—Think Tank Photo

The Think Tank Retrospective looks interesting, a possible drawback is no secure fastening - just velcro. The bag seems to suit my size requirements & it doesn't look like a camera bag while not also looking like a manbag! :eek:

Does anyone have a Think Tank bag?

Easiest is when you use the bagfinder option at Lowerpro and insert all that needs to be in the bag. It shows you all options.

I have a small Lowepro Apex 100 for my cam + 18-55mm or 50mm but they might have them in a larger size too. It's handy, isn't screaming photography and doesn't make me feel like wearing lipstick either.

Thanks for the suggestion, I can find an Apex 110 which doesn't look too bad & is probably the most suitable in the Lowepro range. I have tried the bagfinder which doesn't seem to work too well for a single body & lens attached. It was suggesting just about every bag in the range, including backpacks.

Those are nice. I was thinking a messenger style bag once I read the reply about not wanting a holster setup, They do scream camera.

I have a Timbuk2 messenger bag I use for work. I also have an insert that makes it ease to store a camera & lenses securely. Very discreet.

ThinkTank, Lowepro and a few others make smaller messenger style bags that might be just what you are looking for. you can hold your body, lens, bottle of water and some other little necessities while out and about.

Along those lines, I bought a 5.11 tactical bag last year for this purpose.

It still serves me well when on a day outing with the kids. I'm looking at a small camera insert for this one as well the more I use it. / Tenba BYOB 9
