I am looking for a good online vendor to deal with. I'm wondering who others deal with. It is important they be reliable and knowledgeable. I appreciate any info.

I always try to use my local camera store first.

Otherwise I've used Adorama, B&H, Roberts and a few sellers on Amazon with success.

Cameta, Adorama and B&H are the ones I trust. Can I ask what happened with B&H? I've had great experiences with them, and they seem to have a good rep. I hope they aren't slipping!

Adorama.com seems pretty good to deal with. I've bought stuff from there and they've been good to deal with.
Adorama ls one that I did deal with once and it went fine, It looks like my first choice right now...Thanks guys. I'm more concerned where to go for major purchases, that's why I'm being picky.

Cameta is where I got the D5300 from, via Amazon. No complaints with them, but also had no need to follow up with customer service after the sale.

All those mentioned are good places to deal with, however if you keep returning stuff, I would think that you will encounter the same experience with those places as you did with B&H.

I also try to support my local shops, but when making a large purchase the sales tax comes to hundreds of dollars and I cannot afford to pay that when online stores are tax free. Also there are no really good shops in my area.

Don't get me started on not paying sales tax. Sales tax dollars go to fund essential public services such as fire, police and schools. Also, even if you purchased over the internet and the seller did not collect sales tax, in many states (including Maine) you are still legally obligated to paying "use" tax http://www.maine.gov/revenue/salesuse/usetax.pdf
