Hey everybody!
I just bought an ARCA SWISS Z1 SP ball head for my tripod. But this is my very first ball head and I'm looking for any tips in caring for and using it. At the prices these things go for, I need it to work great and last a very long time! :)
So do any of you have any recommendations/suggestions that you think might be handy to know?

Thank you for your help! :D

And a special call out to my Gear Head buddy @gqtuazon on this topic! Lol :D

My best advice is this:

1. Never touch your Arca Swiss ball-head.
2. Do not use your Arca Swiss ball-head as a roofing hammer.
3. Compliment your Arca Swiss ball-head frequently using soft, reassuring voice tones.
4. Lubricate your Arca Swiss ball-head every sixty to ninety seconds using only the purified and refined sebum of prepubescent virgins.

Following this simple advice will ensure your ball-head's usefulness far outlasts your own.

The best thing to do is keep the pouch on it when not in use. If dust gets in the ball head it can over time cause it to bind and score the finish. I've read that you can on occasion spray a bit of WD40 on a rag and wipe any dust off the ball. This also helps to keep it lubricated.

Don't use wd40 for anything -- it will turn to gum over time. Use a high grade machine lubricant like Triflow or Wico and use it sparingly.

In all seriousness I completely agree with this: Friends don't let friends use WD-40, period.

Your ball head really shouldn't require lubrication but should you deem that it does, I would probably opt for a dry silicone type myself. Not that I really think it makes a huge difference. As long as it's not WD-40, that is.

Bill you'll find out that this ballhead requires very little to no maintenance. I've had mine for 3 years. I think you'll enjoy it a lot.
