67mm Filter Kit?

As I mentioned in another post, I replaced my D90 kit lens with an upgrade from Tamron. I'm looking to get a 67mm filter kit, which will fit both lenses.

Most of these starter kits come with 3 filters. Usually a CPL, UV, and ND filter...but there are variations. What would you recommend?

Have you looked into using the Cokin Z series filter holder and filters. You can use ND filters, graduated ND, and CPL all in one holder. The system is a lot more versatile than the standard screw on type and with a couple of inexpensive adapters can be used on all your lenses.

Anthony Im using the Cokin P Series Filters.
They are a bit wider than the Z Series to eliminate vignetting.
So far Im happy with them.

To answer you question about the lens hood, you cant use your original lens hood anymore but you can buy their modular hood as an option if a hood is really needed.

Ranie, do you have the P and Z series reversed as to size? The P filters are 85mm wide, the Z filters are 100mm wide and the x-Pro are 130mm wide. In any case Ranie is correct, no you can't use the original lens hood. Cokin makes a modular hood if you want one. I've read both good and bad about the effectiveness of the modular hood especially when shooting wide angle. I always use my hand or a baseball cap when it is needed. The biggest complaint with this type of filter system is the vignetting at very wide angle. To help with that problem Cokin makes a thin holder. You can also cut off one or more of the slots on the front of the holder (it has three). You can get aftermarket holders fairly cheep. You also have to remember that the filters are the gel type not glass. With a little care they will give you good service. There are glass filters available from manufacturers such as Lee and Sing but at more than five times the cost.

I ended up getting one of Tiffen's intro filter kits. UV/CPL/ND filters. We'll see how it goes. I splurged a little more on a high quality UV filter for my Tamron 70-200mm.
