Winter coat for my camea. What do you think?

I've never used one, may be a good idea if your camera isn't well sealed. I've had my D200 in some pretty harsh conditions without a hiccup.

Aha! just the right question, I am situated in a snowy environment with a -10 degree Celsius temp, with wind chill, roads are as slippery as --- well you know, Any help shooting with D90, Oh yes I do realise I am not the only one in this predicament, so what do you do, to avoid frozen pics and everything else

Imnunky, there are a number of very good reasons I live in Atlanta and -10 degree Celsius is on the top.
M.Hinch, I have a "rain coat" for my D90, which is only water proof rip stop nylon. I find it clumsy to use and difficult to change settings. With all that padding I would think it near impossible to make the necessary changes. If it's that cold you will be wearing gloves as well. You would also have to open it up to get to the wheels and dials which would defeat the purpose of it in the first place. I've talked to professionals who have shot in very cold weather and their only problem was with the batteries dyeing very quickly. However they all said the Nikons performance in the cold is quite good. Most everyone I've talked to says the main problem is condensation that occurs when taking the camera and lens from a warm environment to cold. The recommendations for that is to put the camera and lenses in a sealed plastic bag before taking them into the cold. Then let them acclimate to the cold for about 20 minutes before taking them out. Hope this helps.

Joseph: I checked my outdoor thermometer at 6 am this 23 rd day of Nov, I've had to go out and plug in my vehicle for easier starting etc, because it's -20 so I guess outdoor shooting is off for now, I can only assume the difficulties with gloves on cannot visualize with camera coat, But I will keep your suggestions in mind thank you

I just came back from a couple of weeks in Sweden. I took my D200 with my 28-105mm lens along. I used my case I got from Linkdelight and I am happy to report it worked very well.
It was winter there, between -2 & -5, lots of snow. I carried my D200 around all day long.
It protected it from the elements and kept it try, the material is the same as that used by windsurfers, etc. So two thumbs up for me J.

Sorry what I meant to say was the material was made out of wetsuit material.
It was pretty cold there with lots of snow. I carried my D200 around in this case and it kept it dry and protected from the elementsJ.
For two weeks and I was really happy with how the case kept my camera dry.

Welcome back, hope you had a great trip! Gotta love that link delight, I have not been disappointed by them yet.

As Canadians it's not easily possible for us to live down there. :(
-10ºC!? that's enough for me to want to move west! Nothing like the -38º we get here in December-January, that's without windchill!!

I am lucky, I will not be going overseas again until late April, much better weather by then :).
Now I can spend some time at home with my family, and take some pictures....lol.

No, you would have to take off your battery grip. I have grips on both my D200 and D80. When I took my D200 with me to Sweden, I had to take me grip off. It will hold your D300 + your 17-55 no problem. I had my 28-105mm on my D200 and it fit no problem. Even when I had a 55-200mm on my camera it fit in the case. So other then the fact you have to take off your grip, it should fit???
