Lowepro and other bags squeak!

I have a Lowepro bag that squeaks when I walk. I know some models from Lowepro tend to do that (some don't, like my previous one) and also some other bags. I used to have a (non-camera) bag that squeaked but his time it was a little more difficult to find the problem. It turned out to be from between the two sides of the hooks touching.

When I walk there is some more force on the bag (like having more weight when you jump) and this slightly bends the hooks. The rubbing of the two sides (marked with yellow X in the 1st photo) was squeaking (in every step). There was a second squeak, only a couple of times a minute or less, which was coming from only one side between the hook and the triangle part it is going through (marked with white X).

I used heat shrink tubing over the hook parts to fix it, shown in 2nd photo. You could also glue something thing enough, though it would have to be thin enough to not make the hook stay in a too flexed position. Plus you'd have to be more careful not to peel it off and it woudl need to be wear resistant to last.

I have tried that and also several other greasy things which I have many of beause of one of my jobs. I found that any of them (including paraffin wax) are great for a while, but not nearly as long as a solution like this.

I literally don't buy bags with these kinds of clasps for that exact reason. The bag that came with my Nikon D5100 was like that and totally turned me off to them. I have an Event Messanger Pro and several other LP bags that don't make a sound. it has to do with the metal on metal contact when it swings to and fro. I can't think of a more annoying noise though.

I find spraying the crap out of them with WD-40 works too. Ok, just kidding.
Do you also repair musical instruments...? Cause that's an old joke we have :)

Eurotrash, yes, it's better not to have the squeak and yes it can be very annoying. This is for those who have the problem, which seem to be more than a few, but for some reaosn there are very few posts about it. It's a way to fix the problem in just a few minutes.

BTW my previous back, which also Lowepro just one model smaller, didn't have any squeak at all (I think this one is 170 and my previous one was 160).

Nope, if I bust a drum head, which is very seldom and is almost always the snare head, I just go get another one. :uncomfortableness:
